For ‘light’ spinning / plugging: a medium heavy casting/spinning rod, 6’-7’6” long, rated for 12-20lb line and casting weights 3/8 – 2 oz.
For heavy casting / spinning: 7’½ - 9’ rod rated for 20-30lb line or heavier and casting weights 1 – 4 oz (casting distance can be a limiting factor when spinning or bait fishing in the surf).
For bait fishing in the surf: 9’-12’ rod rated for 20-30lb line or heavier and casting weights 1 – 4 oz.
Stand-up outfit: 5’6”- 6’6” rod rated for 30-50lb line (used specifically for targeting tarpon, using natural baits from an anchored boat in rough water).
Medium-heavy boat rod: 5’6”- 6’6 rod rated for 20-30lb line (used for bait fishing in the lagoon and heavy trolling).
