Research and Monitoring

Four species of turtle, including the impressive leatherback, breed along the Loango coastline during the months of November to February. During the season, data collection teams conduct nightly surveys looking for nesting or hatchling turtles. Adult females are tagged when possible. A database is being established that will allow for the better conservation of these threatened reptiles.
