A word about rod ratings.
A rod rated for 20lbs means that the amount of force it takes to bend that rod approaches 20 pounds of pull and therefore it is best suited to 20lb line, with some leeway allowed for drag in the system from sources other than the reel itself. Rigging a rod that has a weaker test curve than 20lb, with 20lb line, does not mean that you have a 20lb outfit. As a rule of thumb, most store-bought rods are overrated (i.e. a rod rated for 10-20lb line is probably only really a 10lb rod). |
