Other fishing accessories
- Mini side-cutters for clipping leaders and line.
- Bait knife.
- Hook hone or small sharpening stone.
- Rod bucket.
- Fly Fishing Tackle
- 10 wt and 12 wt outfits with floating, intermediate and sinking (sink rate 4-6 ips) lines on top of 30lb backing. If limited to just two lines, omit the intermediate.
- Leaders should be tapered to 20lb or 25lb tippets with 0.75mm or 1mm clear leader material for shock tippet.
- Flies: Large (#3/0 – #5/0) flies tied with soft, natural materials that breathe in the water.
Large deceivers, whistlers and similar flies tied with maximum natural movement in mind work well. Bright poppers and sliders/divers are also useful. Carry a small range of natural coloured flies and a good selection of flies that contain yellow and chartreuse. A few smaller flies (#1- #6 Crazy Charlies, Clousers and crustacean patterns) will cover all other eventualities. Large, weedless flies that ride hook-up are necessary in some areas where fish hang close to structure or the bottom is foul.
Do not arrive with new gear that you have never cast with or are not familiar with. It takes time before arriving to practice your casting and especially if you’re planning to fish with multipliers. If you have an urge to try spinning in the mangroves, pinpoint accuracy is critically important, practice being able to cast accurately at distances of 10-15m before you get here and you will catch more fish, have more fun and minimize your chances of getting frustrated. |
