Research and Monitoring

While the cetacean research team based at Iguéla focuses primarily on the humpback whale migration, a second study has been proposed, starting in 2004, of the Atlantic humpback dolphin. This is a rare and poorly understood species that occurs in the inshore waters bordering the park. Data will also be gathered on any other cetaceans (e.g. Orcas, which occur in Gabonese waters in low densities) that are encountered from time to time during research activities.
